Hello my fellow enthusiasts, welcome back to Story Time Through a Blade, where we discover and address a variety of murderers around the world! As a fair warning before discussing this month’s topic, the man I will be mentioning has undergone some disturbing and truly unremarkable actions against women. I won’t be mentioning everything he’s done; however, I will briefly highlight the important factors that created the man he turned out to be.
With that disclaimer out of the way, let’s dig deeper into the heavy hitting lifestyle of Harvey Carignan. The man we will be discussing introduces himself in three ways. Each way he perceives himself is an indication of the next change in his life. The first is how he projects himself to the outside world, with his full government name for those who do not know Harvey personally. The second is a hinting idea of what he does, the Want-ad killer, that explains more about him engaging with others within a newspaper. Lastly, the name he is famously known by Harv the Hammer because of his association with a hammer.
Let’s take a drive to the past to the year 1940s, where it all began. Throughout this time, Harvey would put ads up in the newspaper seeking out help, hoping someone would answer his call. To his surprise, many women stepped forward, drawn to the opportunity to put their caregiving skills to work. He would use this tactic to engage with women and lure them into their final, horrifying demise. Could you even imagine what their mothers went through after losing their daughters?
Harvey had breaks in between his murders during the 40s to the 70s, which allowed him to be under the radar for a while until much later in his life. Within this time frame and along with all the murders he conducted, he jumped in and out of prison due to the number of women that he raped. He didn’t get caught with any murders until later in life. Upon the brutal murders he conducted, he would then grab his hammer and whack them to their final breath. Although Harvey endured many disturbing actions, something interesting about him is that he escaped the hangman’s rope which then initially brought him to the prison that he was sentenced to life at. This prison is famously known for holding Al Capone, this prison being the notorious Alcatraz Prison.
While Harvey encountered and actively involved himself in dangerous and impactful actions towards others for a few years, at 95 years old he died in Alcatraz. Despite being an old man, it would not exempt him for his past, for the families that were involved, the friends he had, his own family, and many other people who could have potentially been involved that were never considered or notably mentioned. Harvey gained his sense through killings, but was it ever the right switch or right pathway? We will never tell what alternative pathway Mr. Carginan could have had, if it wasn’t for the love of the strike. Without further disclosure this session is officially closed and remember without a blade you don’t have a case. Until next time…
