Orbiting Love

•

We went to this really nice coffee shop, and maybe five minutes into the date, this obviously lonely and awkward older gentleman sat down next to us. He said he couldn’t help overhearing that she was a teacher and started asking her about it.

At first, we were polite and thought he’d make a quick comment and leave, but he just kept talking. Somehow, it turned into almost an hour of nonstop stories and questions. We kept giving each other those awkward “how do we get out of this?” look and tried to politely explain that it was our first date, and that we were trying to get to know each other.

That somehow made him even more interested. He wanted to stay and see how the date went and kept asking us questions like he was personally invested in the outcome.

Eventually we just got up and said we needed to go. The second we got outside, we both started laughing about how ridiculous the whole thing was. It definitely wasn’t the date we planned, but at least we had something hilarious to talk about on our walk afterward.

Anyway, that was our first date. The guy is probably still wondering how it went. Turns out, it went pretty well because we’re married now.

Hey, Jahnavi here. I am sorry, but I genuinely cannot get over this story.

Thank you so much for sending this in because what was supposed to be a FIRST DATE somehow became a three-person coffee date. The fact that this man sat down beside you, started a conversation, and then just… never left is honestly unbelievable. And the more you tried to politely explain that you were on a date, the more interested he became?! At that point, he was basically waiting for the season finale of your dating show.

I also love that you both kept looking at each other like “is this actually happening right now?” because I KNOW those looks were doing some serious communication.

But what makes this story so special is that, despite how completely strange the date was, you ended up laughing about it together, and now you have this absolutely ridiculous story to tell about how you met. There is something so sweet about that.

Sometimes the moments that bring us together are not grand romantic gestures or perfectly planned dates. Sometimes it is a random stranger completely derailing your coffee date for an hour. And somehow, years later, you’re married.

Honestly, I think that makes this the perfect kind of meet-cute feature in Orbiting Love. Thank you again for sharing it with us! And to the mysterious coffee shop man: I hope you read this and find out how the date went, because in a way you contributed to their love story.
