A Halloween classic will return to Brantford from Oct. 2 to 3.
Brantford’s Scare in the Square is happening in Harmony Square and Mohawk Park on Friday, Oct. 2, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026, from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Scare in the Square is an annual event planned by the City of Brantford that includes two days of family-friendly and teen/adult Halloween activities. This event has taken place in the City of Brantford since 2008 and attracts an estimated 7,000 attendees over the course of the two days.
“Brantford is the place to be this October, filling downtown with spooky fun for all ages,” said Special Events Supervisor Jennifer Middleton in a city media release.
Harmony Square will hold kid-friendly activities. There will be a craft activity at Casper’s Craft Corner, a nail polish station at Boo-tique Nail Salon, face-painting and costumed characters available for photos around the square.
The festivities begin on Friday with the Dog Costume Parade around Harmony Square. Decorated scarecrows and carved pumpkins will be on display Friday. Attendees can vote for their favorite and the winners will be announced on Saturday. There will be a roller-skating party on Friday, with skate rentals available for $5.
Saturday’s schedule begins at 12:50 p.m. with a stilt-walking duo. Trick-or-treating takes place at participating businesses downtown from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., at the same time as the Jeep and Mustang Display.
A costume contest, dance choreography and performances, and a Silent Disco follow. The Silent Disco is a new addition this year. This event is a partnership with Contact Brant, a local Children’s Services organization.
Tickets for the paranormal tours of the Bank of Montreal, two escape rooms and kids’ amusement rides will be available on both days for purchase.
Activities geared towards teens and adults will take place at Mohawk Park. On both days, attendees can purchase tickets for $4 and experience the Movie Slashers Haunted House in the pavilion.
Also available on both days is Scare in the Trail, where ticketholders can walk the trails around the park and encounter some “spooky surprises.”
Free shuttle buses will run between Harmony Square and Mohawk Park from 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on both nights.
“It’s always exciting to see residents, local businesses and visitors get into the spirit by dressing up and join the fun,” Middleton said. “The city is grateful to our sponsors and volunteers for helping make this free-to-attend, beloved event possible.”
The full event schedule is available on the City of Brantford’s website. Tickets are available for advance purchase at City Hall or on the day of the event. Activities at Mohawk Park is cash-only.
