The Golden Hawks women’s soccer team captured top spot in the OUA West on Sunday, following a shutout victory over the Waterloo Warriors.
Krista Cellucci and Brynn Metherall both scored to lead the “Lady Hawks” to a 2-0 victory over their cross-town foes.
Following a quiet first half, Metherall broke the barrier in the 58th minute when she put the ball past Warriors keeper Lesia Bandura.
Cellucci added some insurance in the 81st minute, and the Hawks defense shut down the Warriors, and allowing Katrina Ward to pick up the clean sheet.
The win moved Laurier to an impressive 11-1-2 record, good enough to crown them regular season champions in the tough OUA West division.
The first place finish gives the Hawks a couple of days off while the first playoff round is played, before hosting the lowest remaining team on Saturday.
Laurier finished with the third best record in the entire OUA, with only Queens and Ottawa picking up more points.
Laurier’s only loss throughout the regular season came at the hands of the Windsor Lancers, when they fell 1-0 earlier this month.
The tournament for the final four will be held on the weekend of November 6 and 7, with the highest remaining team from the OUA East acting as hosts.
