Once you have your eating habits in check you can begin an exercise routine. Cardiovascular exercise and weight training are both crucial parts to losing weight and shaping up. Not only will regular exercise change your body, but it will also help you de-stress and sleep better at night.
Cardio is great for weight-loss, but let’s face it, it can get really boring! To make it more interesting I suggest you try switching machines. For example, if you usually run on the treadmill maybe give the cross trainer or stair master a try. Or for more variety you can try doing ten minutes on three different machines. Whichever machines you use, you don’t need to spend an hour slogging away. Keep it short and sweaty!
The best way to change your body shape is to incorporate weight training. I know so many women that refuse to lift weights because they think they’ll bulk up but that’s just simply not the case. Weight training will actually sculpt and tone your body. For the guys, weights will help you strengthen your muscles.
If I still haven’t convinced you to try hitting the weights on your own, there are a few other options. Most gyms, including the Wilkes House Recreation Centre, offer a variety of fitness classes that can help you tone up. If that’s not your thing and you’re still really unsure of where to start you can hire a personal trainer. A personal trainer will design a nutrition and exercise plan based on your body type and goals.
Lastly, my favourite tip is to convince a friend to exercise with you! The weight room seems a little less scary when you bring your best friend along plus you’ll be able to motivate and push each other even further.
