On Monday morning, the Wayne Gretzky Centre received its largest donation yet of $200,000 in its Inspiring Greatness campaign from SC Johnson.
The donation was given ceremonially by Kathy Makela, Rebeccah Bohlender, Heather Barker and Robert Nasato, SC Johnson community enrichment team members; and received by Trudy Ion, a volunteer on the fundraising committee, and Brantford Mayor Chris Friel.
The funds donated by SC Johnson are specifically intended to help create a space near the entrance for children to play and parents to socialize.
“We are very excited about it,” said fundraiser Susan Campbell. “It gives children a place to play that is safe and family-friendly.”
Although there is no set plan for the area outside of the entrance, Campbell was assuring that it would be something besides a set of monkey bars.
“We want to create a one-stop facility for people… a place especially attractive for competitions.”
Several other generous donations have been made to the Inspiring Greatness campaign, including a $25,000 donation from Bank of Montreal.
